Mission, Goals, and Objectives

Mission: to successfully prepare graduates for a dietetics supervised practice program, graduate study, and employment through academic training in an interdisciplinary environment of human nutrition, foods, exercise, and extension.


Goal One:
Prepare graduates for successful performance in a dietetics supervised practice program leading to eligibility to become a registered dietitian nutritionist.

  • 65 percent of program graduates apply for admission to a supervised practice program prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
  • 50 percent of program graduates are admitted to a supervised practice program within 12 months of graduation.
  • The program’s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80 percent.
  • 90 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were overall prepared for supervised practice.
    • 75 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were overall very well prepared or well prepared for supervised practice.
  • 90 percent of program graduates who enter a dietetics supervised practice program will indicate that they were overall prepared for supervised practice.
    • 75 percent of program graduates who enter a dietetics supervised practice program will indicate that they were overall very well prepared or well prepared for supervised practice.

Goal Two:
Prepare graduates to achieve individual post-graduation goals through academic and career advisement to support growth and development.

  • 80 percent of program students complete the program/degree requirements within three years (150 percent of the program length).
  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they received sufficient academic advising based on their individual goals.
  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they received sufficient career advising based on their individual goals.
  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they were overall prepared for their first role post program completion.
  • 85 percent of program graduates not applying to dietetic internships will enter professional school, graduate school, or the job market within 12 months of graduation.

Goal Three:
Prepare graduates to demonstrate professionalism and effectively communicate in professional roles. 

  • 90 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were prepared to demonstrate professionalism.
    • 75 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were very well prepared or well prepared to demonstrate professionalism.
  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they were prepared to effectively communicate in their first role post program completion.
  • 90 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were prepared in oral communication skills.
    • 75 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were very well prepared or well prepared in oral communication skills.
  • 90 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were prepared in written communication skills.
    • 75 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were very well prepared or well prepared in written communication skills.

Goal Four:
Prepare graduates with problem solving and critical thinking skills in an interdisciplinary academic environment.

  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they were prepared in the area of critical thinking.
  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they were prepared in the area of problem-solving.
  • 90 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were prepared in problem solving and critical thinking.
    • 75 percent of dietetics supervised practice program directors will indicate that program graduates were very well prepared or well prepared in problem solving and critical thinking.
  • 90 percent of program graduates will indicate that they had sufficient opportunities to be a member of an interdisciplinary academic environment.
