Greetings from the Undergraduate Program in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise! We are very proud of the four options from which students can study in our department. The unique course offerings develop students with a strong foundation of knowledge, excellent oral and written communications skills, and the ability to critique and analyze research within the field. We support students involvement in extra-curricular and outside the classroom opportunities, recognizing that these activities promote leadership skills, networking, lifelong learning, and a commitment to community service.

HNFE Orientation Assistants. Two HNFE students have been selected as Orientation Assistants for 2010. Shannon Austin and Nataleigh Gevas, both seniors in SFNE, will enjoy this personal honor. Both were both Orientation Leaders last summer, working as guides each day of Orientation for freshmen. As Orientation Assistants, they will interview and help select this year’s team of Orientation Leaders, facilitate training, and mentor a team of four new Orientation Leaders. Becoming an Orientation Assistant is essentially a promotion and an honor. Congratulations to Shannon and Nataleigh!
AHA Heart Walk. On October 11th Michelle Lewis lead a team of 9 HNFE students who participated in the American Heart Association Heart Walk at Bisset Park in Radford. Most walked a 5K for the event, and the team raised $960 for heart disease prevention education and research. Kudos to Shannon Summers, Jordan Price, Danielle Nunn, Rachel Stacey, Sarah Donnelly, Leslie Padget, Erin Carlson, Grace McGuirk, Renae Brooks, and Michelle Lewis.
